The Older Adult Behavioral Health team at Lutheran Hospital helps patients achieve healthier and more productive lives through prevention, evaluation and treatment of emotional and behavioral difficulties. Our goal is to restore the patient to their maximum level of functioning in a safe and secure environment. We utilize a multidisciplinary team where patients are monitored medically and psychologically in order to provide high quality patient care. Our team of trained professionals is dedicated to improving and maintaining the behavioral health of the patients and families we serve.

 

Lutheran Hospital's Older Adult Behavioral Health unit opened in 1981 under the direction of Dr. Herbert Weiss. It was a pioneering program, as the only Ohio hospital and one of only a few general hospitals in the entire country, to offer a structured unit designed for the psychiatric and medical treatment of the elderly. This innovative program continues to deal exclusively with the complex biopsychosocial problems confronting men and women over the age of 65. We continue to deliver excellent patient care while embracing a patient’s autonomy through comprehensive assessment, individualized treatment planning, and a full continuum of behavioral health services.

Lutheran Hospital is an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, which offers state of the art care for the behavioral health patient. This affiliation allows for a combination of expertise when treating the symptoms of psychiatric illness. We offer a spacious 22-bed unit that permits easy access to other inpatient units and diagnostic procedures if the need arises. Our staff benefit from on-going education and professional development, ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care.
