Types of Treatment

Inpatient Treatment
The purpose of the inpatient unit is to offer more intensive initial assessments for more targeted treatment efforts, while carefully managing the environment in order to maximize patient comfort and benefit.  Supportive and brief psychotherapy is offered during the 5 – 7 day inpatient stay.  For those patients in need of long-term, intense psychotherapy, a referral to an appropriate venue will be made.  Patients of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Mood Disorders Treatment and Research at Lutheran Hospital will also have access to the existing Mood Disorders Outpatient Program, a five-week group therapy program at Lutheran Hospital.

Outpatient Treatment
The Mood Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program provides support to individuals seeking help for Depression and Bipolar Disorder.  Our program is designed for adult patients who need additional support compared to just one weekly therapy session. The program includes group therapy, treatment planning and family meetings, education, family support, goal development and discharge planning.  Depending on the individual needs of group participants, our program explores topics such as assertiveness, grief and loss, healthy lifestyle tips, how to develop new coping methods, problem solving, self-esteem, sleep hygiene, and stress and anger management.  Our supportive, caring and structured approach helps patients reduce mood disorder symptoms, regain lost confidence and restore them to satisfactory levels of functioning.
